Card Authorized User Terms
Published: August 24, 2026
Version: celtic-aut-2026-07
What You Are Agreeing To
These Authorized User Terms apply when you request a Monay virtual card. Monay is not a bank. Cards are issued by Celtic Bank, a Utah-chartered bank and Member FDIC, under a license from the applicable card network, and you become an authorized user of a card issued through that program.
By accepting these terms, you agree to these Authorized User Terms. Where your card is issued through a business's card account, you are an authorized user of that card and not the holder of the card account. In that case the business is the account holder. The obligations the issuing bank places on the account holder — opening and maintaining the card account, repayment, and the security given for it — are that business's, not yours, and your card transactions are subject to the issuing bank's terms for that program. Where the issuing bank's terms govern the card itself, they control over these terms.
For reference, the accountholder terms for the issuing bank's business card program are published in full at Issuing Bank Terms — Celtic Bank. You may also obtain a copy of those terms — and of your own recorded acceptance, including its date and version — at any time, including before you request a card, by writing to legal@monay.com.
You also agree to the Monay Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, which continue to apply to your Monay account.
Record of Your Acceptance
When a card is created for you, Monay records the version identifier shown above as the version of these terms you accepted, and records a time and IP address taken at the point the card is requested. Monay separately confirms to the card issuer that you agreed to these terms, which the issuer requires before a card can be created. That confirmation carries the time and IP address only; the version identifier is kept in Monay's own records.
If we change these terms materially, we publish the revised terms on this page with a new version identifier. Acceptance of an earlier version does not carry forward: you will be asked to accept the current version before a new card is issued.
Eligibility
You must meet the following requirements to hold a Monay virtual card. We may verify them at any time, and a card issued to someone who does not meet them may be cancelled:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be a U.S. resident with a valid U.S. address
- Have completed identity verification on your Monay account
- Hold a Monay account in good standing that is not suspended, closed, or under review
- Not be prohibited from holding a card under applicable law or sanctions programs
Where a card is requested for a business, the business must also have completed business verification.
Using Your Card
Your virtual card draws on the available balance of the Monay wallet it is linked to. A purchase is authorized only if that wallet has sufficient available funds and the purchase is within the limits and merchant restrictions that apply to your card.
When a merchant authorizes a purchase, the amount is held against your wallet balance and is not available for other spending. The hold is applied to your balance when the merchant completes the transaction. If a merchant does not complete an authorized purchase, contact Monay support to have the hold reviewed and released.
Certain merchant categories are blocked and cannot be used with your card. Additional spending limits may apply to your card and are shown to you in the Monay app.
Your Responsibilities
- Keep your card details, device, and account credentials confidential
- Use the card only for lawful purchases you are authorized to make
- Notify Monay promptly if you believe your card or account has been compromised or used without your permission
- Keep your contact and identity information accurate and current
Suspension, Freezing, and Closure
You may freeze your virtual card at any time in the Monay app, and unfreeze it the same way. Freezing declines new authorizations while leaving the card in place. To cancel a card permanently, contact Monay support; cancelling releases any outstanding holds on your wallet balance.
Monay or the issuing bank may freeze, suspend, or cancel your card, with or without prior notice where permitted by law, if required by law or the card network, if your account is under review, if we suspect fraud or unauthorized use, or if you no longer meet the eligibility requirements above.
Disputes and Unauthorized Transactions
If you believe a transaction on your card is incorrect or was not authorized by you, contact Monay support as soon as you become aware of it. Your dispute and error-resolution rights, and the timeframes that apply to them, are governed by the issuing bank's cardholder agreement and by applicable law.
Fees
Monay does not charge a fee to issue your virtual card. Fees that may apply to the card itself, including any charges applied by a merchant or by a network for a foreign-currency purchase, are governed by the issuing bank's terms for the program your card is issued under. We will notify you before introducing any new Monay fee that applies to your card.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Authorized User Terms. Material changes are published on this page with a new version identifier and a new publication date, so the current terms and their version are always available here. As described above, you will be asked to accept the current version before a new card is issued, and your acceptance of an earlier version does not carry forward.
